Lanark Lifestyles retirement residence and luxury apartments have come a long way since ground was broken to begin construction for the first time on St Patrick’s Day 2018.
In this blog, we’ll be going over the genesis of Lanark Lifestyles, how our community has grown and evolved, the timeline of events leading up to where we are today, and where Lanark Lifestyle is going in 2024 and beyond.
The Origins of Lanark Lifestyles
The idea for Lanark Lifestyles, a retirement residence in Perth, Ontario, started with Dr. Neel Chadha and Wit Lewandowski, who met through family friends in 2016. Hitting it off and sharing a love for tennis, they would meet regularly to play and hone their skills. During many of their off-court conversations in between sets, Dr. Chadha would discuss his experiences as a physician in various retirement homes, which he felt left a lot to be desired.
Wit, a tenured pharmacist who had experience operating retirement homes in Ottawa and Belleville shared the sentiment and explained how he was helping to raise the standards for seniors under his care in his own retirement homes. These conversations continued until one day, in the spring of 2017, instead of meeting up for a quick sweat on the tennis court as they had done many times prior, Neel asked Lewandowski out for a coffee instead.
Expressing his interest in building and operating a retirement home, Dr. Chadha pitched the idea of a partnership with Lewandowski to create something that stood apart from existing residences.
Channeling their medical, pharmaceutical, entrepreneurial, and passion for senior care, this potent partnership has led to the development of the Lanark Lifestyles community.
For the last few years, Lanark Lifestyles has been providing seniors in Lanark Country access to the level of care and lifestyle they deserve, while also more recently expanding to offer luxury apartments on the same property.
Owned and operated by Dr. Chadha and Lewandowski, it is one of the few residences run independently by medical professionals, helping establish itself as a prominent name in the Perth community and putting senior care first.
Constructing the Lanark Lifestyles Community
Construction began on a chilly March 17th, 2018, coincidentally St. Patrick’s Day, marking the start of Dr. Chadha and Lewandowski’s first construction project. Despite initial challenges, Phase I, the retirement residence, was completed on schedule to the highest standards.
On October 1st, 2019, Lanark Lifestyles welcomed its first residents with three move-ins who were excited and shared the vision and mission of the residence. Within a year, Lanark Lifestyles reached 95% occupancy, thanks to its reputation for exceptional care and medical expertise spreading throughout Perth.
Resilience in Action: Lanark Lifestyles’ COVID-19 Response
World events would pose a challenge to the second phase of construction, which is now known as the Luxury Apartments. As COVID-19 was running rampant, supply chain issues were not able to stop Lanark Lifestyles from fulfilling their promise. Doors opened on time, August 15th, 2023. After breaking ground in the spring of 2021, the Lanark Lifestyles community is truly a testament to the resiliency of everyone involved in the project.
Initially, due to budget constraints, amenities were spread thin, but as soon as they were feasible, a wide variety began to be added. In addition, a dining room, pond, lobby, putting green with real grass, and bocce ball court were also added.
Phase II is when more elaborate amenities were added with a state-of-the-art clubhouse (a favourite amongst residents). The additions include a saltwater swimming pool, gym, yoga studio, dog wash station, more walking paths, pickleball court, outdoor fireplace, pergolas, garden beds, a demonstration kitchen, and a party room were constructed.
Lanark Lifestyles now offers a full array of amenities perfect for the varying tastes of our current residents.
Lanark’s Present & Future
Lanark Lifestyles has come a long way in a short amount of time and can now offer both our senior residents and our independent luxury apartment residents exquisite accommodations in picturesque Perth.
The community and staff aim to continue to emphasize care, comfort, and luxury living above all else and are always looking for new ways to improve our residents’ quality of life. Lanark Lifestyles has big ambitions to continue giving back to the community of Perth. Sponsoring Big Brothers and Big Sisters, the Perth and Smiths Falls District Hospitals, YMCA, and other community organizations Lanark Lifestyles strives to continue to raise money and donate to other various causes as well.
